Back Bacon Part 1

So gaming is a big part of my life. It all started when I was 8 or so and i got my first two or three gaming systems within the same year. It all started with the Sega Genesis and the Nintendo. Then the Game Boy came that Christmas. I grew up experiencing all sorts of games. My earliest memories were playing Sonic the Hedgehog and Super Mario Brothers so much that if they weren't cartridges I am sure I would of worn them out.

Fast forward 20 years or so and I am lucky enough to afford both the PS3 and the XBOX 360. I have many games for both and enjoy all types of games. My bread and butter is the first person shooter genre. Yes it is rage inducing but it is addicting like a type of drug. Call of Duty is a helluva drug folks. So I stumbled upon this site called www.justachieveit.com . With a simple email address they will create a free XBOX 360 achievement. Here is mine.

Just Achieve It! XBOX 260 Achievement Generator

Anyways that is all for now. I will try to incorporate this into my blog somehow.

Pachedyrms and Pale Ale

Good day all.

Another product review with another day. This time it is Dead Elephant Pale Ale from St. Thomas Ontario. This stuff has an interesting story. Without getting too much into it, this beer is named after an elephant that was hit by a train in the city when the PT Barnum Circus was in town. this wikipedia article explains it more in depth than I possibly could. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jumbo .

Anyways, the name to say the least is what attracted me to this can of beer. When I first poured it I was excited, the colour as well as the aroma was something that was quite palatable. After the first few sips I was hooked. Then something tragic happened; the aftertaste. Pale Ales fall into 2 categories, those with a smooth finish and those with a very sharp aftertaste. Unfortunately this one falls into the latter category. This left a bad taste in my mouth and ruined a very promising beer. Some people love this taste but i prefer the smooth finish of beers and not the aftertaste that some enjoy claiming it is part of the beers' character.

As you can see this beer has a beautiful amber colour with very little head. Yet this beer is not flat at all. Rather it is quite robust. Damned that aftertaste.

Winter Beer is here

So without further ado, my first product review.

Muskoka Double Chocolate Cranberry Stout aka Winter Beard. This stout is a fine 8% in a 750mL swing top bottle. The brewery touts this heavyweight as a 70% dark chocolate brew with the mixture of freshly picked cranberries. Well it is half right. This dark stout - see the pictures below is all chocolate. That is the most pervasive flavour. The cranberries are a faint after thought as they are most likely tasted after a few sips.

Worth the 10 bucks Canadian? Not really. There are better ones that are far cheaper by far my favourite is the Great Lakes Brewery Winter Ale. The cinammon overtone with a nice finish makes it by far better.

As you can see, this stout drinks like a meal. I used my flash on it and I will be damned the light bounced off the glass. This beer is best sipped and not slugged down like a regular beer.

Welcome

Welcome all to my humble corner of the internet. What caused me to create a blog? Boredom mostly but moreso I will have 5 weeks off from work starting shortly so why not blog. As the name may suggest, I will review beer and booze. But this blog will also have my thoughts in it as well. I am an avid video game nerd so I am sure some of this will inevitably seep into this blog. My aim is to provide content for anyone who stumbles upon this blog as well as being an outlet for my creative talents or lack thereof.

Any suggestions are appreciated as I am completely new to this.

So enjoy your stay as brief as it may be and leave some feedback.

Cheers,

The Beer Baron
