Pachedyrms and Pale Ale

Good day all.

Another product review with another day. This time it is Dead Elephant Pale Ale from St. Thomas Ontario. This stuff has an interesting story. Without getting too much into it, this beer is named after an elephant that was hit by a train in the city when the PT Barnum Circus was in town. this wikipedia article explains it more in depth than I possibly could. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jumbo .

Anyways, the name to say the least is what attracted me to this can of beer. When I first poured it I was excited, the colour as well as the aroma was something that was quite palatable. After the first few sips I was hooked. Then something tragic happened; the aftertaste. Pale Ales fall into 2 categories, those with a smooth finish and those with a very sharp aftertaste. Unfortunately this one falls into the latter category. This left a bad taste in my mouth and ruined a very promising beer. Some people love this taste but i prefer the smooth finish of beers and not the aftertaste that some enjoy claiming it is part of the beers' character.

As you can see this beer has a beautiful amber colour with very little head. Yet this beer is not flat at all. Rather it is quite robust. Damned that aftertaste.

Cheers,

Beer Baron
